Monday 18th May
We left the B&B in heavy rain to head for the ferry to the town of Port
Ellen on the Isle of Islay. There was no sign of Matt and Ced and we guessed
they had either gone on the 7am crossing or would be on the one after ours.
It later turned out that they had gone across the previous evening.

Jilly on the ferry
We met Matt and Ced on the other side and then split up again as Matt wanted to visit a distillery and Ced went with him. The rest of us headed north in our first bit of sunny weather to the town of Bowmore.
Ced and Matt leaving Port Askaig
At Bowmore we managed to find a cash machine and also bought some food for the evening meal which the girls had offered to cook. We then headed south around the bay to the town of Port Charlotte where we were booked into the Youth Hostel.
Lucy heading for Bowmore.
The evening meal was a really nice spag bol after which Jilly and Fred went for a ride down to Portnahaven. The rest of us found a really grotty pub to spend the evening in.
