Wednesday 20th May

We all got up at some ridiculous hour to get breakfast out of the way and then set off at about 8am for Port Askaig. We thought 2 hours was more than enough to get there barring mechanical problems.

Jilly on the way to Port Askaig

It turned out to be an easy, trouble-free ride with the wind behind us most of the way and we got there in time to have a coffee before getting onto the ferry. Matt and Ced were there and had got chatting to a Swedish chap called Larsson who had the most luggage I have ever seen on one bike.

The ferry made a brief stop at the small island of Colonsay and then got into Oban at 2.15.

Jilly outside Oban Youth Hostel

When we got into Oban Jilly, Fred and I dumped the panniers at the Youth Hostel and went for a ride along a really scenic coast road alongside the river we had just arrived by. We then headed back to town where we stocked up on food for the evening meal and then went back to the Youth Hostel. Fred then amused us all with his attempts to put a duvet into a duvet cover

It's really not that difficult !

We invited Larsson to stay with us, Lucy cooked dinner then Jilly went to a Ceilidh in town while the rest of us stayed in and sampled some of the whiskey Matt had bought on one of his distillery tours.
